“We’re Not Running an AIDS Convention Here”: Reporter Says Post Twice Nixed Coverage of Redskins’ Coach Homophobic Remarks

Mike Wise
Post sports columnist Mike Wise said on Twitter today that the Post twice refused to run an allegation that former Redskins defensive coordinator Gregg Williams criticized a player’s missed play with a homophobic remark.
City Paper has the exchange between Wise and Post sports reporter Dan Steinberg about Williams, who is accused of offering bounties for hits. According to Wise, Williams told a player, “You dumb, stupid [MF], you went in the wrong hole….You went in the wrong, [expletive] hole. We’re not running an AIDS convention here.”
Despite sourcing from two players, Wise wrote on Twitter, the Post didn’t run the anecdote on two occasions because of “taste” concerns.
“Editors have to reign us in all the time and make sure the Post exudes very high standards,” Wise tweeted.
This isn’t Wise’s first adventure on Twitter. In 2010, he was suspended from the paper for a month after tweeting a hoax about Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s suspension.
