How the Post Scored Chen Guangcheng Interview

The Post’s Keith Richburg
Post China correspondent Keith Richburg scored a coup early this morning by getting a brief interview with Chinese dissident Chen Guangcheng.
It wasn’t much of an exchange—Chen told Richburg he was fine and headed to the hospital—but Richburg was able to use it to confirm that Chen was in U.S. custody and being escorted by the American ambassador.
Chen chose the Post and over other outlets, Richburg writes in a story touting the Post’s scoop, because of a 2005 Post story by Phil Pan about Chen’s work against forced abortions and sterilization.
Richburg closes the article with a poke at rival reporters.
“The embassy was subsequently deluged with calls from reporters, who accused the staff of playing favorites with the press,” he writes.
